Ingredients
  

For the dough
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Sifted
  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast For activation
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk Warm, to activate yeast
  • 1/2 cup butter Melted
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder For red velvet flavor
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring For color
For the filling
  • 1/4 cup butter Softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Packed
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
For the frosting
  • 8 ounces cream cheese Softened
  • 1/4 cup butter Softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar Sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Good quality
  • 2 tablespoons milk To reach desired consistency

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Activate the yeast by combining it with warm milk and letting it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, melted butter, red food coloring, and the activated yeast mixture to form a dough.
  3. Knead until smooth and elastic, then let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Filling and Shaping
  1. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
  2. Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  3. Tightly roll the dough from one long side and slice into individual rolls.
Baking
  1. Place the sliced rolls in a greased baking dish, leaving space between each.
  2. Let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes, then bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Frosting
  1. For the frosting, beat together softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.
  2. Frost the rolls while they are still warm for best results.

Notes

Store leftover rolls in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature, or refrigerate for up to a week. You can freeze unfrosted rolls for longer storage.
