Ingredients
  

For the dough
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Plus extra for dusting
  • 1 cup milk Warm for activating yeast
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar For sweetness
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Melted
  • 1 large egg Room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon red velvet cake extract For flavor and color
  • 1 packet instant yeast To help the dough rise
  • 1 teaspoon salt For balance of flavor
For the filling
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Packed
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon To create a warm, sweet filling
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter Softened
For the cream cheese frosting
  • 8 ounces cream cheese Softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar For sweetness
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter Softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast, let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add melted butter, egg, red velvet cake extract, and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients; mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Filling and Assembly
  1. Once risen, roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon evenly on top.
  3. Roll the dough tightly into a log, then slice into 12 pieces.
  4. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden.
Frosting
  1. While the rolls bake, prepare the cream cheese frosting by mixing cream cheese, powdered sugar, softened butter, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Once the rolls are baked and slightly cooled, spread the frosting over the top.

Notes

Serve warm for the best experience. These rolls can be stored in an airtight container for 2-3 days. Reheat before serving for a gooey texture.
