Preparation
- In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast, let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add melted butter, egg, red velvet cake extract, and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients; mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Filling and Assembly
- Once risen, roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon evenly on top.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log, then slice into 12 pieces.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden.
Frosting
- While the rolls bake, prepare the cream cheese frosting by mixing cream cheese, powdered sugar, softened butter, and vanilla until smooth.
- Once the rolls are baked and slightly cooled, spread the frosting over the top.
Notes
Serve warm for the best experience. These rolls can be stored in an airtight container for 2-3 days. Reheat before serving for a gooey texture.
