Overnight Dough Development
- In a large bowl, combine flour, water, salt, and yeast. Mix until just combined.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rest at room temperature for 12-18 hours.
Shaping and Proofing
- After resting, turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently shape it into a round loaf.
- Let the dough rest for another 30-60 minutes while preheating the dutch oven.
Baking
- Preheat your dutch oven in a hot oven (450-475°F or 230-245°C) for at least 30 minutes.
- Carefully place the dough into the hot dutch oven, cover with the lid, and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the lid and bake for another 15-20 minutes until the crust is deep golden-brown.
Notes
Avoid over-flouring the dough and rushing the proofing stages. Customize with herbs or cheeses for different flavors.
