  • 3 cups All-purpose flour Use good quality flour for best results.
  • 1.5 cups Water Room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Regular table salt is fine.
  • 0.25 teaspoon Yeast Active dry or instant yeast can be used.

Method
 

Overnight Dough Development
  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, water, salt, and yeast. Mix until just combined.
  2. Cover the bowl and let the dough rest at room temperature for 12-18 hours.
Shaping and Proofing
  1. After resting, turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently shape it into a round loaf.
  2. Let the dough rest for another 30-60 minutes while preheating the dutch oven.
Baking
  1. Preheat your dutch oven in a hot oven (450-475°F or 230-245°C) for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Carefully place the dough into the hot dutch oven, cover with the lid, and bake for 30 minutes.
  3. Remove the lid and bake for another 15-20 minutes until the crust is deep golden-brown.

Notes

Avoid over-flouring the dough and rushing the proofing stages. Customize with herbs or cheeses for different flavors.
