Preparation
- In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa, baking powder, and baking soda.
- In another bowl, whisk together sugar, buttermilk, oil, eggs, food coloring, and vanilla until smooth.
- Combine dry and wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll chilled dough into balls, first coating in granulated sugar and then in powdered sugar.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until slightly soft in the center.
- Let cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
These cookies can be served with cream cheese frosting or drizzled with a simple glaze. Great for gifting, especially for Valentine's Day.
