Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Gently fold in the white chocolate chips.
Baking
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick.
- Cut the dough into wedges and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Glazing
- While the scones cool, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled scones.
Notes
Store scones in an airtight container. To reheat, warm them in the oven for a few minutes. They can also be frozen before glazing.
