Ingredients
  

For the pastry
  • 1 package Quality puff pastry, thawed Choose an all-butter variety for the best flavor.
For the filling
  • 8 oz Cream cheese, softened Ensure it is at room temperature for a smooth filling.
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract For flavor enhancement.
  • 1 tsp Lemon zest Optional, for additional brightness.
For the topping
  • 2 cups Fresh strawberries, sliced Wash and hull before slicing.
For the egg wash
  • 1 large Egg Beaten with a tablespoon of water.
For the glaze
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar For a sweet finish.
  • 1-2 tbsp Milk or lemon juice To mix with powdered sugar for the glaze.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Thaw the puff pastry as directed on the package, about 30-40 minutes at room temperature.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with sugar, vanilla, and lemon zest until light and fluffy.
  4. Slice the fresh strawberries and set aside.
Assembly
  1. Unroll the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 3-4 inch squares.
  2. Make two diagonal cuts from opposite corners of each square towards the center, creating a heart shape.
  3. Fold two opposite points towards the center to form a heart shape and press to seal.
  4. Place a dollop of cream cheese filling in the center and top with sliced strawberries.
  5. Brush the edges with the egg wash for a golden color.
Baking
  1. Bake the danishes for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  2. Allow the danishes to cool on a wire rack for 10-15 minutes before glazing.
  3. Mix powdered sugar with milk or lemon juice to create a glaze and drizzle over cooled danishes.
Serving
  1. Present the danishes on a beautiful platter or box them for gifting.
  2. Enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea for a perfect romantic breakfast.

Notes

Experiment with different fruits like raspberries or blueberries. Add a pinch of cardamom to the filling for added warmth.
